Purpose
Established in 1966 under the auspices of Union Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the mission of the SJBEF continues today as an affiliate of Catholic Financial Life. The Foundation was founded for the advancement of education and provides financial assistance through college scholarships. It is committed to helping society members become better prepared for tomorrow in order to meet the challenges and demands of our aggressively dynamic society.
Member Scholarships
The Foundation awards general scholarships to students pursuing a wide range of undergraduate or graduate degrees in a two or four year accredited college or university. Some of these scholarships are awarded “in memory of” or “in honor of” an individual as established since its founding through donor gifts.
Seminarian Scholarships
Seminarians from all New England dioceses except Bridgeport, CT may be eligible for seminarian scholarships. Dioceses with established & restricted scholarships “in honor of” or “in memory of” an individual receive annual scholarships. These include: Maine, Springfield, MA, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Candidates are selected by the bishops and/or directors of vocation from each individual diocese. Seminarian scholarships are awarded to those individuals who are in their last four years of theological studies.
The number of member or seminarian scholarships awarded varies from year to year depending on the number of applicants and the amount of income available and generated by the SJBEF Trust Fund.
In addition to general scholarships, undergraduate students may also be eligible for the following awards. These scholarship awards are considered by the Trustees every year and are dependent on the available income generated by the SJBEF Trust Fund.
• State Academic Achievement Awards
• French Scholarship
• Outstanding Volunteer Scholarship
• Scholarship based on best essay
